Redemptive Scars

I wear scars on my skin

Covered by clothes

I wear scars in my heart

No one else knows

I’ve felt the lashes

Of uncertain days

I’ve cried out, “God!

How much can I take?!”

Then Your love

Broke through my gray

Captured my heart

As if to say;

“You are my child

Scars and adorn

Made in My image

Before you were born

Look at My cross

What do you see?

I wear scars, too

From head to My feet

Scars of injustice,

Rebellion, and sin

Steeped in blood

Poured from my skin”

Suddenly my scars

I couldn’t see

Christ had worn them

Upon a tree

I may wear scars

Covered by clothes

And scars in my heart

No one else knows

But I’m made in His image

From before I was born

He calls me, “child”

Scars and adorn

With love, Trey Wilson
